Case study
One Line Loop: Email journaling that actually sticks
One Line Loop is a live consumer product from AL Phesda Interactive: one evening email, one private line of 120 characters, and a calm streak. Built end-to-end as a Next.js app with Firebase, Stripe, and Resend.

One Line Loop is an email-first daily journaling app for people who never stuck with a journal. AL Phesda Interactive designed and built it as a live consumer product: brand, marketing site, encrypted web app, evening email loop, Stripe billing, and the member tools people use every night.
The product is simple on purpose. An evening email arrives around 8pm local time with one short question. You tap through and write one private line of up to 120 characters, or reply to the email. Your streak updates. There is no feed, no blank page, and no ads.
The brief
Most journaling apps ask for a new habit, a blank page, and more willpower at the end of a long day. We wanted the opposite: meet people in the inbox they already open, constrain the writing so it takes about ten seconds, and keep the words private by design.
That brief needed a full product, not a landing page. Sign-up, Stripe trial, timezone-aware evening prompts, reply-by-email capture, an encrypted Today page that works as a PWA on phone or desktop, history with weekly insights, and SEO landers that explain the practice to people still searching for a daily log that fits a busy evening.
If you have a consumer app or membership product that has to feel quiet and trustworthy, this is the kind of build we do. Book a Discovery Session and we will map the smallest version worth shipping.
The loop, priced simply
The homepage sells one loop in three steps. Email arrives at night. Write on paper, up to 120 characters, encrypted for that account alone. Watch the streak: history and weekly insights without shame for rest days.
Pricing matches the restraint. A 7-day free trial through Stripe Checkout, then $2 a month or $20 a year. Cancel anytime. No feature maze, no annual lock-in theatre.
Today on the phone
The Today page is the product. Date, streak, tonight's question, a 120-character field, and a one-tap mood check-in that stays separate from the written line. You can also reply to the evening email if opening an app is one step too many.
History keeps the calm. Weekly insights show days logged, consistency, streak, and average mood. Word stats run in the browser from the entries already on the page, so that snapshot never needs a second server round-trip.
The evening email is the habit
Willpower is a weak scheduler. The prompt lands around 8pm local time with the day's question, current streak, and a single button into the app. Members can write in the app or reply to that email from the address on their account. Replies are encrypted like app entries when encryption is enabled.
Content that teaches the practice
Searchers do not type the product name first. They look for one-line journaling, an online daily log, or a habit that survives a busy evening. We built dedicated landers for those queries, with the same quiet visual language as the app, so the marketing site and the product feel like one piece of work.
Member assets, not another paywall
Signed-in members can download free daily log templates from Assets: fillable PDF for iPad, PNG, and Markdown. Evening One Line, Quiet Month, and Breath and Line each keep the same one-line constraint on paper or in Notes. Visitors can unlock downloads with an email. Members skip that step.
Technical architecture
- Frontend: Next.js App Router on Vercel. PWA-friendly Today page on phone or desktop, Google sign-in, and a marketing site that shares the product's type and colour.
- Data and privacy: Firebase Auth, Firestore, and security rules so only the account owner can read their documents. Lines are encrypted in the browser and stored as ciphertext. Other users cannot read the journal. Word stats on History stay in the browser.
- Email: Resend for evening prompts, weekly digests, and reply-by-email journaling.
- Payments: Stripe Checkout with a 7-day trial, then $2 a month or $20 a year. Cancel from the billing portal. No charge until the trial ends unless the member keeps the plan.
- Ownership: Export or delete from account settings. The daily logs belong to the member.
We do not sell journal entries or use them for ads. Cloud infrastructure still operates the servers, and the privacy policy says so in plain language.
